2021–22 Alps Hockey League season
The 2021–22 Alps Hockey League was the league’s sixth season. The lineup saw big changes: defending champions HK Olimpija left for the ICE Hockey League, and the league expanded to 17 teams. Vienna Capitals Silver joined, EK Zeller Eisbären were excluded, HC Merano earned a wild-card to return to the Italian top flight after 17 years, and Olimpija and HC Pustertal Wölfe moved to the ICE Hockey League.
The season kept a two-stage format. Each team played 32 regular-season games. After that, the top six teams moved to the Master Round, while the remaining teams were split into two qualification groups (Group A and Group B) for a second phase. The top four teams in the Master Round qualified directly for the playoffs; the other two Master Round teams, plus the top three teams from each qualification group, advanced to a preliminary round to determine the remaining four playoff spots.
Because many games were postponed due to COVID-19, December 2021 saw a change in ranking: teams were ranked by points per game, with a requirement to have played at least 70% of their games to be classified.
Italian teams continued to compete for the Italian title among themselves, while Austrian teams had their own parallel results.
In the end, Asiago Hockey won the championship, earning their second title, by defeating HDD Jesenice in the finals.
