This article lists every suspension and fine from the 2018–19 NHL season, showing who was punished, why, and how much.
Key points
- Money from suspensions goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund (players). Fines against coaches, staff, or teams go to the NHL Foundation.
- How forfeiture is calculated:
- Non-repeat offenders: forfeited amount = average annual salary divided by 186 days.
- Repeat offenders: forfeited amount is based on 82 games in the season.
- Notation:
- † = suspension covered at least one 2018 preseason game
- ‡ = suspension covered at least one 2019 postseason game
- # = suspension was reduced on appeal
- R = repeat offender (suspended within 18 months prior)
- Fines for players:
- Up to 50% of one day’s salary
- Up to $10,000 for the first offense
- Up to $15,000 for any subsequent offenses (if fined in the last 12 months)
- Coaches, non-playing personnel, and teams do not have these same limits
- Diving/embellishment fines:
- Structured uniquely and issued after non-publicized warnings for the first offense
- Italicized fines indicate the maximum allowed amount.
