Overview
- Format: Two tournaments per season — Apertura (opening) and Clausura (closing). 12 teams compete in each tournament, playing 22 games (home and away against every other team). The top 8 teams enter playoffs. The Apertura and Clausura champions both qualify for the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League. If the same club wins both tournaments, the best runner-up overall also earns a spot.
- Teams: 12 teams contested the season. Atlético Marte and Chalatenango joined the league, while Real Destroyer’s spot was later sold to Sonsonate. Firpo took Juventud Independiente’s place after the Apertura season.
- Defending champions: Isidro Metapán (Apertura) and Santa Tecla (Clausura).
