National Capital Region Transport Corporation
National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited (NCRTC) is a public sector company formed as a joint venture of the Government of India and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. It owns RapidX, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) for the National Capital Region (NCR).
Key facts
- Formation: Approved by the Union Cabinet in July 2013; incorporated on 21 August 2013.
- Headquarters: GatiShakti Bhawan, INA, New Delhi.
- Leadership: Current managing director is Shalabh Goel. The first MD was Vinay Kumar Singh (appointed July 2016). NCRTC also operates through a subsidiary, NCRTC Express Transit Limited (NETRA).
- Project: Develops, finances, operates and maintains the RRTS in the NCR to provide fast and comfortable travel to NCR towns.
- RapidX: The RRTS project, RapidX, was inaugurated on 20 October 2023 and is operated by Deutsche Bahn.
Corridors and travel expectations
- The government-approved RRTS corridors connect Delhi with Meerut, Panipat, and Alwar.
- Targeted travel times: roughly 1 hour for Delhi–Meerut and Delhi–Panipat, and about 2 hours for Delhi–Alwar.
- Alignments were approved by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) with State government support, enabling immediate start of implementation.
