2011 Melilla Assembly election
The election was held on Sunday, 22 May 2011 to elect all 25 seats in the Assembly of Melilla. It coincided with regional and local elections across Spain. Turnout was 58.2% (31,589 votes from 54,282 registered voters).
Electoral system: Melilla uses closed party lists with the D’Hondt method and a 5% threshold. The Mayor-President is elected by the Assembly; if no candidate wins an absolute majority, the candidate from the most-voted party becomes Mayor.
Parties and results:
- Partido Popular (PP) — Leader: Juan José Imbroda. Seats: 15. Votes: 16,852 (53.9%). Seat change: 0.
- Coalition for Melilla (CpM) — Leader: Mustafa Aberchán. Seats: 6. Votes: 7,394 (23.7%). Seat change: +1.
- Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) — Leader: Dionisio Muñoz. Seats: 2. Votes: 2,683 (8.6%). Seat change: −3.
- PPL — Leader: Ignacio Velázquez Rivera. Seats: 2. Votes: 2,128 (6.8%). Seat change: +2 (new party).
Mayor-President before the election: Juan José Imbroda (PP). Mayor-President after the election: Juan José Imbroda (PP). PP won an absolute majority (13 seats needed).
