2007 US Open (darts)
The 2007 US Open (darts) was the first US Open organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It took place in Connecticut from May 18 to May 20, at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort—the same venue used for the 2006 World Series of Darts. The event replaced the World Series of Darts, which was canceled after one year because ESPN ratings were poor. Phil Taylor won the tournament, defeating Raymond van Barneveld in the final.
TV coverage varied: in the UK it was shown on Challenge, hosted by Sarah Cawood with Tony Green (his first time broadcasting a PDC event). In the US, Versus showed only limited coverage.
Format and prize: 32 boards were used on Friday Night Madness, where at least 16 American players advanced to the final stages. On Saturday, the 16 US qualifiers joined the top 64 players in the PDC Order of Merit. Matches were best of five sets, with three legs per set. The field was reduced to 16 players for the final rounds on Sunday. The total prize fund was £126,000.
