William Hodgson (Canadian politician)
William (Bill) Hodgson was a Canadian politician from Ontario. He served as a Progressive Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for York North from 1967 to 1985 and was deputy speaker from 1974 to 1975.
Born on March 18, 1912, in Nobleton, Ontario, Hodgson came from a large family and worked as a dairy farmer. He married Eliza Barker, and they had four children.
Hodgson entered public life on the King Township school board in 1946. He later served as councillor, deputy reeve, and then reeve from 1949 to 1962. He was the warden of York County in 1959 and chaired the King Township planning board from 1963 to 1967.
He was elected to the Ontario legislature in 1967, defeating Liberal Tom Taylor by 2,127 votes. He was re-elected in 1971, 1975, 1977, and 1981, generally acting as a backbench supporter of the administrations of John Robarts, William Davis, and Frank Miller. Hodgson lost his seat in the 1985 election to Liberal Greg Sorbara by 4,095 votes.
Hodgson died of cancer on October 27, 1988, in Kettleby, Ontario, at the age of 76.
