Cardiff City 2005–06 season
Cardiff City played in the Football League Championship and finished 12th. The club was chaired by Sam Hammam and managed by Dave Jones. They switched kit suppliers from Puma to Joma, with Redrow continuing as the main shirt sponsor. Cameron Jerome was the top scorer, scoring 18 league goals (20 in all competitions). The club’s attendance ranged from a high of 16,403 for the game against Plymouth Argyle to a low of 8,724 against Ipswich Town, with an average home league attendance of 11,802.
Season summary: Cardiff began with a 1–0 defeat at Ipswich Town, then secured a win at Leeds United before a four-match winless spell. They recovered with wins over Leicester City and Crystal Palace. On 22 October they had their biggest win of the season, a 6–1 victory over Crewe Alexandra, but results afterward were inconsistent. By Christmas they had won just three of thirteen games since late October. In the new year they suffered a 5–1 defeat at Reading. In the final stretch, six wins from the last eighteen games helped them finish 12th.
Cup runs: In the FA Cup, Cardiff entered in Round 1 and beat Colchester United 2–0, then Macclesfield Town in Round 2 before being eliminated by Arsenal in Round 3 (2–1) on 7 January. In the League Cup, Cardiff reached the third round before being knocked out by Leicester City.
