2023 Belfast City Council election

The 2023 Belfast City Council election was held on 18 May 2023. Sixty councillors were elected by the single transferable vote. No party won an overall majority, so the council stayed hung.

The largest party was Sinn Féin, with 22 seats (up four). The DUP won 14 seats (up one), and Alliance took 11 seats (up one). The SDLP won 5 seats (down one), and the Green Party won 3 seats (down one). Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) won 2 seats, while People Before Profit and the TUV each won 1 seat. The Progressive Unionist Party (PUP) did not win any seats.

First-preference votes were:
- Sinn Féin: 35.2%
- DUP: 21.2%
- Alliance: 15.9%
- SDLP: 7.8%
- Green: 4.8%
- UUP: 4.1%
- People Before Profit: 3.6%
- TUV: 2.8%
- PUP: 0.5%

Context: With 60 seats, 31 are needed for a majority, so the council continues to operate under no overall control. The results reflect shifts since 2019, with Sinn Féin gaining seats overall and other parties adjusting their share.
