Murtala Square
Murtala Square is a public square in Kaduna city, Kaduna State, Nigeria. It was formerly known as the Kaduna Race Course and was renamed to honor Murtala Ramat Muhammed, a former military head of state. The square includes gyms, an indoor sports hall, football fields, and a hockey pitch. It also hosts the Kaduna Polo Club ground, the Kaduna State Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, and the Umaru Musa Yaradua Indoor Sport Hall. It has been a venue for many events, such as Kaduna Grand Durbar, Kaduna Centenary Celebrations, Nigeria’s Independence Day, May Day, governors’ inaugurations, Army Day, and Human Rights Day. The area is bordered by Race Course Road to the north and east, Muhammadu Buhari Way to the south, and Independence Way to the west. Construction of a new gate was underway in August 2021. Construction was completed around 1950.
