2002 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2002 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) was a 32-team, single-elimination event for NCAA Division I teams that did not play in the 2002 NCAA tournament. It was the fifth WNIT. The finals were held at McArthur Court in Eugene, Oregon.
Oregon won the championship, beating Houston 54–52 for their first WNIT title (they had won the NWIT in 1989). Houston was the runner-up in its first title game. Bev Smith was Oregon’s head coach, and Catherine Kraayeveld of Oregon was named the Most Valuable Player. The final drew 6,835 fans.
In the semifinals, Houston defeated Virginia Tech 77–72, and Oregon defeated Michigan State 65–54.
