2000 Fresno mayoral election
The 2000 Fresno mayoral election was held in two rounds. Incumbent mayor Jim Patterson was term-limited and could not seek another term.
In the first round, held March 7, 2000, six candidates competed:
- Alan Autry (Republican): 22,951 votes (28.75%)
- Dan Whitehurst (Democrat): 22,177 votes (27.78%)
- Chris Mathys (nonpartisan): 10,503 votes (13.16%)
- Garry Bredefeld (nonpartisan): 10,029 votes (12.56%)
- Daniel Ronquillo (nonpartisan): 7,929 votes (9.93%)
- Sal Quintero (nonpartisan): 5,046 votes (6.32%)
The top two finishers, Autry and Whitehurst, moved to a runoff.
The runoff was held November 7, 2000. Autry won with 66,555 votes (61.23%), while Whitehurst received 41,920 votes (38.57%).
Result: Alan Autry was elected mayor of Fresno, succeeding Jim Patterson.
