Francesco Angiolini
Francesco Angiolini (1750–21 February 1788) was an Italian Jesuit scholar who translated many classical works into both Polish and Italian. Born in Piacenza, he joined the Society of Jesus in 1765 and retired to Polotsk after the suppression of the Jesuits. He left behind many works showing his learning, including a Polish grammar for Italians, original poems in Italian, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and several comedies in Polish. He translated from Greek into Italian a three-volume edition of Josephus Flavius (Florence, 1840–44). He also translated Sophocles' Electra, Oedipus, and Antigone into Italian (Rome, 1782). Other works include an incomplete Italian translation of Thucydides and a Polish translation of Sophocles. Angiolini died in Polotsk.
