1998 Tennessee State Tigers football team: The Tigers represented Tennessee State University in the Ohio Valley Conference during the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA season. Led by head coach L. C. Cole in his third season, with offensive coordinator Johnnie Cole and defensive coordinator Jake Cabell, the team went 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the OVC, winning the conference title. They were ranked No. 12 by the Sports Network. Home games were played at Hale Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Tennessee State advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs but lost in the first round to Appalachian State, 31-41.
