1997 Alamo Bowl
1997 Alamo Bowl recap: Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys 33–20 in the Alamodome in San Antonio on December 30, 1997. Both teams finished the season at 8–3. Purdue, led by quarterback Billy Dicken, jumped ahead with an 18-yard touchdown pass to take a 7–3 lead. The teams traded field goals and Purdue led 10–6 at halftime. In the second half, Dicken added a 1-yard rushing touchdown to make it 17–6. Jamaal Fobbs of Oklahoma State answered with a 21-yard run for a touchdown, pulling OSU to 17–13. Purdue then extended the lead with Vinny Sutherland’s 19-yard touchdown run to go up 24–13. Dicken threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Chris Daniels, making it 30–13, and Purdue added a field goal to reach 33–13. Oklahoma State scored late to set the final at 33–20. MVPs were Billy Dicken (QB) and Adrian Beasley (S) of Purdue. Attendance was 55,552. Referee was Bill Goss (SEC). ESPN carried the game with Mike Tirico, Todd Blackledge, and Jerry Punch announcing.
