The 1987 Clacton Professional, also known as the Essex Royal Professional, was a non-ranking snooker tournament for lower-ranked players. It took place at the Clacton Snooker Centre in Clacton, England, from 24 to 28 August 1987.

Sponsor and prize money
The Essex Royal Hotel sponsored the event, and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association added £5,000 to the prize fund, which totalled £10,000. The winner received £3,000, the runner-up £1,500, and losing semi-finalists £600 each, with quarter-finalists earning £300.

Winner and runner-up
Mike Hallett of England won the title, beating Jack McLaughlin of Northern Ireland 6–1 in the final after building a 5–0 lead. Hallett was the top seed, having won the 1986 edition. The highest-ranked participant was Dean Reynolds, who was 15th in the 1987–88 world rankings—one place above Hallett.

Other details
- Joe O'Boye advanced to the quarterfinals by default after Tony Jones and David Roe, who were due to play first, did not appear, and Jim Wych was also slated to face the winner but did not appear.
- Jon Wright withdrew from the event because he refused to wear a lounge suit.

Pro-am event
A pro-am event also held at the same venue finished on 23 August, sponsored by Pot Black magazine. Tony Drago defeated amateur Wayne Keeble 4–2 in the final and won £1,000 of a £2,700 prize fund.

Summary
The main event was won by Mike Hallett with a dominant 6–1 final score, in a tournament designed for lower-ranked professional players.
