Presteid

Presteid is a village in Hamarøy Municipality, Nordland county, Norway. It lies just east of Oppeid along the Presteidfjorden and is part of the Oppeid urban area, which had 557 residents in 2023. The village is home to Hamarøy Church, the municipality’s main church. The famous writer Knut Hamsun lived in Presteid from ages 9 to 14 and often wrote about it. The Knut Hamsun Centre, a museum about his life and work, is also in Presteid. Stoklands Bilruter, a bus company, was based here until it merged with Saltens Bilruter.
