The 1978 National Challenge Cup, also known as the Dewar Challenge Cup, was the 65th edition of the United States Soccer Federation's annual open championship. Teams from the North American Soccer League did not participate that year. Maccabee Los Angeles defeated Bridgeport Vasco da Gama of Bridgeport, Connecticut 2–0 in the final, earning Maccabee Los Angeles their fourth national title.
