Edward L. Hamilton
Edward La Rue Hamilton (December 9, 1857 – November 2, 1923) was a Republican politician from Michigan. He was born in Niles Township, Michigan, and graduated from Niles High School in 1876. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1884, and practiced in Niles.
Hamilton served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 4th district from March 4, 1897 to March 3, 1921, winning eleven consecutive terms. He chaired the Committee on Territories from the 58th through the 61st Congresses. He did not seek reelection in 1920 and returned to practicing law.
He died in St. Joseph, Michigan, in 1923 and was buried in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
