1973 West Dorset District Council election

Voters in West Dorset chose all 55 seats on the new West Dorset District Council on Thursday 10 May 1973. The council would come into effect on 1 April 1974, and future elections would be held every three years. The next election was planned for 6 May 1976.

Results
- Independents: 44 seats, 60.2% of the vote (28,607 votes)
- Liberal Party: 9 seats, 23.9% of the vote (11,354 votes)
- Labour: 2 seats, 15.9% of the vote (7,569 votes)

Outcome
Independents took a large majority, and the council was controlled by Independents after the election.
