1972 Rhode Island gubernatorial election
The 1972 Rhode Island gubernatorial election was held on November 7, 1972. Democrat Philip Noel defeated Republican Herbert F. DeSimone, winning 52.55% of the vote (216,953 to 194,315). The race kept the governor’s office in Democratic hands, with Frank Licht (a Democrat) having been the governor before the election and Philip Noel becoming the new governor afterward.
