Plain Jane is the fifth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk. It was released on October 13, 2009 in Canada and was her first album with MapleMusic Recordings. The title comes from the opening track “Plain Jane,” reflecting Kreviazuk’s feeling of living a double life as she splits time between Canada and California as a working mother.

The album features a guest trumpet appearance by Chris Botti on the title track. Kreviazuk had previously contributed vocals to Botti’s 2003 album A Thousand Kisses Deep. The closing track, “Na Miso,” includes Swahili lyrics about staying connected with loved ones and is co-written with Bibiane Mpoyo, who also provides vocals.

“5000 Days” is considered a continuation of her 1999 song “Until We Die.” Two bonus tracks were available: “Backfires” with the iTunes version and “Seclusion” with the pre-order. The single “Invincible” was used in a Garnier Nutrisse commercial and reached number 60 on the Canadian Hot 100. Garnier Canada offered a free download of “Ordinary People” in July 2009 with a chance to win concert tickets.

A video of Kreviazuk recording “Today” appeared online, and the song “Today” was used in Blue Crush 2. The album runs about 39 minutes and falls in the adult contemporary genre. It was produced by Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk. Plain Jane sits between the best-of collection Since We Met: The Best of 1996-2006 (2008) and the later album Hard Sail (2016).
