Marie Barbier de l'Assomption
Marie Barbier de l'Assomption (1663 – May 19, 1739) was a nun in the Congregation of Notre Dame. She was the first Montreal-born woman to join Marguerite Bourgeoys' community. She later became Superior General, helping the congregation grow in New France. She was sometimes an ally of Bishop Saint-Vallier and spent many years working to keep the order free from some of his strict decrees. Barbier held several administrative roles and continued to teach and work until her death.
