Knock Dem Dead
Knock Dem Dead is a 1988 studio album by Arrow, the Montserratian soca musician. It was his first album to be widely distributed in the United States. The album was released on Mango Records and produced by Leston Paul. It blends soca with rock, giving more prominence to guitar, with Chris Newland on guitar and Audio Two guesting on the lead track.
The song Groove Master was later featured on the soundtracks for Casual Sex? and The Mighty Quinn. Critics praised the album for its lively, danceable sound and Arrow’s distinctive beat, influenced by Latin rhythms and New York rap. The Boston Globe called it high-energy bacchanal music with driving guitars and horn blasts, and Arrow’s vocal delivery. The Chicago Tribune ranked Knock Dem Dead No. 2 on its list of the 10 best albums of 1988, highlighting its accessible, catchy rhythm. Reggae & African Beat called Groove Master Arrow’s masterpiece.
