The 1968 United States Senate election in Colorado was held on November 5, 1968. Incumbent Republican Peter Dominick was re-elected to a second term, defeating Democrat Stephen McNichols, a former governor. Dominick won by a large margin, receiving 459,952 votes (58.55%) to McNichols’s 325,584 votes (41.45%). The result was a landslide for Dominick, even though Republican Richard Nixon carried Colorado in the presidential election by a smaller margin. This Senate seat would not lean Republican again in a landslide until 1998, when Ben Nighthorse Campbell—who had started his career as a Democrat—won re-election as a Republican.
