1956 New Year Honours

The New Year Honours 1956 were awards given by Queen Elizabeth II in many Commonwealth realms to recognise people for their good work. They were announced on 2 January 1956 to celebrate the start of the year. The list shows recipients as they were styled before their honour, arranged by type of honour, then by class (such as Knight or Knight Grand Cross) and division (Military, Civil, etc.). At that time the two lowest Royal Victorian Order classes were Member (fourth class) and Member (fifth class), both with post-nominal letters MVO. In 1985, Member (fourth class) was renamed Lieutenant (LVO).
