1954–55 Liga Alef
1954–55 Liga Alef was the last season as Israel’s top football league. The next season, Liga Leumit became the top division and Liga Alef moved to the second tier. Fourteen clubs competed: 12 from the previous top division and two promoted clubs, Hapoel Hadera and Beitar Jerusalem. The league used two points for a win and one for a draw.
Hapoel Petah Tikva won the title, their first championship. Hapoel Hadera and Hapoel Balfouria were automatically relegated. Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Kfar Saba entered promotion/relegation playoffs against Liga Bet winners Maccabi Jaffa and Hapoel Kiryat Haim; Kfar Saba stayed in the top division, but Beitar were relegated.
Across 182 matches, 676 goals were scored (about 3.71 per game). The top scorer was Nisim Elmaliah with 30 goals.
Play-offs: The 12th and 11th-placed Liga Alef teams, Hapoel Kfar Saba and Beitar Jerusalem, faced the Liga Bet winners, Maccabi Jaffa and Hapoel Kiryat Haim, with each team playing the other three once; Hapoel Kfar Saba retained their top-division spot, while Beitar Jerusalem were relegated.
