Peter Smith (born around 1989) is an American businessman best known for co-founding Blockchain.com, a cryptocurrency financial services company. He studied economics at the University of London and then worked in international finance in the Middle East, Eastern Africa, and Singapore, exploring how digital currencies could improve cross-border banking.

Smith received his first bitcoin in 2011 from Gavin Andresen. That same year, he co-founded Blockchain.com with Nicolas Cary and Ben Reeves. They started the company in Reeves’s flat in York. Smith became CEO in 2014 and also serves as executive chairman of the board. By October 2014, Blockchain.com had 2.3 million wallets and raised $30.5 million in its first external funding round, the largest crypto financing at that time.

In 2017, Smith joined the UK Finance Board, a banking trade association, and left in 2020 when his contract ended. Smith met his co-founders online through their shared interest in Bitcoin.
