1936 Virginia Cavaliers football team
The 1936 Virginia Cavaliers football team represented the University of Virginia in the 1936 season. Led by third-year head coach Gus Tebell, they played home games at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville and were part of the Southern Conference. They finished 2–7 overall, with a 1–5 conference record. After the season, Virginia left the Southern Conference in response to the Graham Plan, which banned sports scholarships. In February 1937, Tebell was replaced by former Marquette coach Frank Murray. Tebell’s three-year Virginia record was 6–18–4, and he stayed at the school to coach basketball and baseball.
