1922–23 Prima Divisione
1922–23 Prima Divisione was the 23rd edition of the Italian Football Championship and the second season branded as Prima Divisione. The previous season had a political split with two rival championships, which is why this edition is the 23rd rather than the 22nd.
Genoa won the title, earning their eighth Italian championship.
Format and structure:
- The competition was played as five regional groups, with the group winners advancing to a national final.
- To manage many teams, the FIGC held a July qualification to reduce the field to three groups of 12 teams.
- Some clubs had merged (for example, U.S. Livorno and Pro Livorno).
Competition notes:
- The group winners moved to the final phase; the four lowest clubs in each group were relegated.
- Padova qualified for the Final Round.
- The Southern League operated separately as an amateur league and was won by Lazio Rome.
In short, Genoa emerged as champions in a season built on regional groups feeding into a national final, with early qualifiers and several club mergers shaping the lineup.
