Annapurna Stotra
The Annapurna Stotra is a Hindu hymn of 12 Sanskrit verses written by Adi Shankara. It praises Goddess Annapurna, a form of Parvati who represents nourishment and sustenance.
Legend and purpose
- The hymn is based on the story of Annapurna, who controls food and nourishment. According to the legend, Shiva begged for food from her to save the world from famine.
- The stotra is commonly chanted in Varanasi during the arati ceremony to honor the goddess.

- The first verse describes Annapurna as a loving mother who brings everlasting joy, beauty, protection, and purification. She rules the world, is connected with the holy city of Kashi, and, as Divine Annapurna, grants grace and alms to her devotees.
