The 130th Engineer Brigade is a United States Army engineer brigade based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. It provides combat engineering, construction, and bridging support to United States Army Pacific and the Indo-Pacific region. As part of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command, the brigade is modular and can command additional units when deployed. The force is about 1,600 soldiers and includes two subordinate battalions: the 11th Engineer Battalion (Camp Humphreys, Korea) and the 84th Engineer Battalion (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii).

History in brief
- The brigade traces its lineage to the World War II 1303rd Engineer General Service Regiment, which served in Europe and the Pacific and earned multiple campaign streamers. It went through several redesignations and reorganizations in the postwar era.
- In 1969, the unit was activated in Europe as the 130th Engineer Brigade, formed from V Corps’ engineer groups in Bamberg, Germany, and served on the Cold War front line for many years.
- The brigade was stationed in Germany for much of the late 20th century before relocating to Hawaii in 2008 as part of a broader Army transformation. It was reactivated in Hawaii that year and stood up for new missions under U.S. Army Pacific.

Key operations and deployments
- 1991: Desert Shield/Desert Storm — elements supported the 1st Infantry Division; notable achievements included bridging and route work.
- 1995–1996: Operation Joint Endeavor (Bosnia) — the brigade helped build and repair bridges and produced maps for the international mission.
- 2003–2006: Operation Iraqi Freedom — the brigade became the primary engineering component in country, overseeing multiple battalions and thousands of engineers; it conducted bridging, base construction, road repair, and utility work, including major projects around Baghdad and other bases. The 565th Engineer Battalion built the long “birthday bridge” over the Tigris in Tikrit.
- 2009: Returned to Iraq as the main engineer force during a later phase of the war.
- 2013–2014: Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) — the brigade served as Theater Engineer Brigade, training Afghan engineers, supporting construction and retrograde operations, and coordinating with joint partners.
- 2011: Balikatan in the Philippines — engaged in civil-military projects and humanitarian efforts to assist local communities.

Recent and current status
- Since 2008, the brigade has been based in Hawaii and works under U.S. Army Pacific to provide engineering, bridging, and construction support across the Indo-Pacific.
- It has maintained readiness for high-end conflict and stability operations, focusing on mobility, infrastructure, and civil-military cooperation.
- The brigade’s leadership includes current commander Colonel James A. Beaulieu (since June 21, 2024) and Command Sergeant Major Christopher R. Shetland. Notable past commanders include LTG Todd T. Semonite and MG Diana M. Holland.

The 130th Engineer Brigade remains a key modular engineer force, able to project combat and construction capabilities across the region as needed.
