Ísleifs þáttr biskups
Ísleifs þáttr biskups (The Tale of Bishop Ísleifr) is a short Old Norse-Icelandic story about Ísleifr Gizurason, Iceland’s first bishop. It has two parts. First, Ísleifr travels to Norway and meets Saint Óláfr. Brandr Vermundarson introduces him and gives Ísleifr a cloak that the king had given Brandr. Second, the tale tells of Ísleifr’s marriage to Dalla Þorvaldsdóttir. The story is preserved in Flateyjarbók, where it is inserted into Óláfs saga helga, and it survives in manuscripts AM 753 fol. no. 5 (a fragment from the 15th century) and AM 554h α 4to (a 17th-century copy of AM 753 fol. no. 5).
