Ángel Hernández (boxer)
Ángel “El Toro” Hernández (born September 17, 1975) is a Mexican boxer from San Luis Potosí. He fought mainly as a middleweight and light middleweight. He is 1.73 m tall, with a reach of 183 cm, and box ed orthodox. His professional record includes 41 fights: 30 wins (17 by knockout) and 11 losses.
He turned pro at 16, winning his debut by first‑round knockout on March 29, 1996, against David Pearson. He started his career with eight straight knockout victories and was 13-0 before losing to Wilfredo Rivera.
Hernández won several titles during his career, including the IBA Americas Jr. Middleweight title in 2000 (defeating Julio César De la Cruz by split decision) and the NABF light middleweight title in 2002 (beating Larry Marks by split decision). He also held NABA, NABF, and IBA Americas titles along the way.
In big fights, he lost an IBF title eliminator to Kassim Ouma in 2003. That same year, he lost to Winky Wright by a 12‑round unanimous decision as Wright became IBF champion. He moved up to middleweight in 2004 and lost to Raymond Joval by a technical decision in the eighth round.
Late in his career, Hernández challenged for vacant titles but fell short. In May 2010 he lost to Peter Manfredo Jr. for the vacant IBO middleweight title, and in December 2010 he was defeated by Osumanu Adama for the vacant IBO international title. In March 2011 he lost by an eighth‑round disqualification to Joey Hernandez for the vacant USBO light middleweight title and was briefly suspended before being relicensed in Illinois in 2012.
A planned comeback in February 2012 against Demetrius Andrade ended with a second‑round knockout for Andrade, and Hernández received a 90‑day suspension after the fight.
