Zics
Zics is a small village in Somogy County, Hungary. It sits in the Southern Transdanubia region, about 8 km southwest of Tab and 20 km south of Lake Balaton. The village covers 15.01 square kilometers and had 320 residents in 2017. Local wildlife includes deer, wild boar and foxes. Zics was first mentioned in 1295 (as Zvch). In 1478 it belonged to György Zichy. The village was depopulated during the Ottoman wars, and German settlers arrived in the 18th century at the invitation of the Zichy family, helping revive it. Today it is a calm place that attracts Western European retirees.
