Ithycythara

Ithycythara is a genus of small sea snails, marine mollusks in the family Mangeliidae. Their shells usually lack spiral sculpture, or have only tiny, microscopic lines. Some shells may have a peripheral keel and a few basal threads. The genus is closely related to Pseudorhaphitoma.

These snails live in the Western Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Taxonomy: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Mollusca; Class Gastropoda; Subclass Caenogastropoda; Order Neogastropoda; Superfamily Conoidea; Family Mangeliidae; Genus Ithycythara (Woodring, 1928); Type species Mangelia psila (Bush, 1885). There are several species in the genus, including Ithycythara altaspira (the holotype is at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris).
