Zach Kittley
Zach Kittley (born August 14, 1991, in Abilene, Texas) is an American college football coach who became the head coach at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 2025. He is the son of Wes Kittley, the longtime Texas Tech track coach. After initially planning to play basketball at Abilene Christian, Kittley switched to football and transferred to Texas Tech University, where he started as a student assistant on the football team and later became a graduate assistant, working with quarterbacks including Patrick Mahomes.
Kittley’s first major coaching role came at Houston Baptist, where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2018 to 2020. He helped turn around the Huskies’ offense with an Air Raid system and played a key role in Bailey Zappe’s development.
In 2021 he moved to Western Kentucky as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Zappe followed him to WKU, and the Hilltoppers’ offense jumped from 115th in scoring in 2020 to 2nd in the nation in 2021. Zappe set single-season FBS records for passing touchdowns and yardage during the Boca Raton Bowl win.
In December 2021 Kittley was named Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, working there through 2024.
Florida Atlantic hired him as head coach in December 2024, succeeding Tom Herman. In the 2025 season FAU posted a 4–8 record (3–5 in the American Athletic Conference).
Kittley is married to Emily, and they have three sons.
