Yves Sarault
Yves Victor Sarault (born December 23, 1972) is a Canadian former professional hockey player and coach. He played 106 NHL games for the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators between 1995 and 2001. Since then, he has built a coaching career in Europe, especially in Switzerland.
As a youth, Sarault played in the 1985 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a team from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. He was drafted 61st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
From 2002 to 2008, he played in the Swiss National League for EHC Basel, SC Bern, Genève-Servette HC and HC Davos, after which he joined ERC Ingolstadt in Germany’s DEL. He also competed for Team Canada in the Spengler Cup.
In the 2009–10 season, he started with Rivière-du-Loup CIMT in the LNAH, then moved to the Vienna Capitals in Austria for the rest of the year. He later returned to Rivière-du-Loup for two seasons and was traded to the Cornwall River Kings for the 2012–13 season.
Sarault began coaching in Switzerland with Lausanne HC as an assistant in 2014, becoming head coach in the 2017–18 season before being relieved in February 2018. On January 22, 2021, he was named head coach of EHC Visp in the Swiss League, guiding them to the playoffs before they were swept in the quarterfinals; he was not renewed after the season. He later worked as a hockey analyst for MySports before taking over as head coach of SCL Tigers in the National League in January 2022.
His daughter Courtney Sarault is a Canadian short track speed skater who competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
