Subbotin (crater)

Subbotin is a 67-km-wide impact crater on the Moon’s far side, located west of Pavlov and east-northeast of Lampland. It can only be seen from lunar orbit. The crater is named after Soviet mathematician and astronomer Mikhail F. Subbotin. Subbotin’s rim is worn and its floor is pockmarked with many small craters, a sign of heavy bombardment. A short chain of small craters starts in the northwest interior and curves across the northern rim. On maps, these interior craters are labeled with letters, placed on the side of Subbotin’s midpoint closest to the feature. The crater’s depth is unknown, and its sunrise colongitude is 225 degrees.
