Sad Song is the lead single by the Cars from their 2011 album Move Like This. It was released to radio on March 1, 2011, after a teaser clip appeared in December 2010. The song, a rock/new wave track released by Concord Music Group, was written by Ric Ocasek and produced by Jacknife Lee. It was the second-to-last Cars single released while the band was active; their last single, "Free," did not chart. Exclaim! says the song doesn't sound sad, thanks to its cheerful beat and mix of synths and guitars. Critics have noted similarities to early Cars hits like "My Best Friend's Girl" (1978) and "Let's Go" (1979). "Sad Song" reached number 33 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart.
