You Turned the Tables on Me
You Turned the Tables on Me is a pop swing song from 1936 written by Louis Alter (music) and Sidney D. Mitchell (lyrics). It was written for the film Sing, Baby, Sing, where Alice Faye performed it. The song was soon recorded by Benny Goodman and His Orchestra with Helen Ward singing. Their Victor Records version became a hit, reaching No. 3 on Your Hit Parade in November 1936. Goodman later recorded it again with Martha Tilton for the soundtrack of The Benny Goodman Story (1956). Since then, many artists have covered the song. The 1936 single was published by Sam Fox Publishing Company, recorded August 13, 1936, and runs about 2 minutes and 46 seconds. It was released on Victor with the label number 25391, and its B-side was “Here’s Love in Your Eyes.”
