Ukodo

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Ukodo is a traditional Urhobo dish from Nigeria. It is a hearty pottage made with yam and unripe plantain, meat, and vegetables in a pepper-soup style broth. It is often prepared for important occasions such as weddings and burials, and it can be eaten for breakfast, especially in cold weather. Sometimes cooks add lemongrass and potash for flavor. A Nigerian poem by Chovwe Inisiagho-Ogbe describes the ingredients and how Ukodo is cooked in a playful way.
