Yakubu (Gobir ruler)
Yakubu was the ruler of Gobir, a Hausa city-state in what is now northern Nigeria, from 1795 to 1801. He became ruler after Bawa and led several military campaigns. His reign saw growing tension between Gobir’s Hausa elite and the Fulani reformer Usman dan Fodio, who would later oppose them in the Fulani War. Yakubu was killed in 1801 while trying to storm the Zamfara fortress of Kiyawa.
