Scawby is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. It sits about 2 miles southwest of Brigg, just east of the A15 and south of the M180. The population was 2,243 at the 2011 census.

History and notable places
The Nelthorpe family owned Scawby Hall, and Sir John Nelthorpe founded Brigg Grammar School in 1669. Sturton used to be a separate hamlet to the south, but land development has joined it to Scawby. Scawby Brook is just east of Brigg, and Greetwell is a small hamlet to the west. Archaeology shows a long history of habitation, including possible Roman villa floors found at Sturton Farm in 1816. Scawby is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Scallebi/Scalebi with 34 households. Scawby Hall dates from around 1603, with later 18th‑century improvements and 19th‑century crenellations.

Scawby Mill opened around 1829; the present tower was rebuilt after a collapse during renovations in 1994. Scawby railway station opened in 1848 and closed about 1928; the railway line remains in use.

Church and religion
The church of St Hybald is named after a 7th‑century Saxon saint. It is built in the Early English style but was substantially rebuilt in 1843 and again in 1870. The tower is from the 15th century, with 13th‑century work at the base. There used to be a Methodist chapel in the village until August 2012; nearby Hibaldstow still has a chapel. The ecclesiastical parish is Scawby and Redbourne, part of the Scawby, Redbourne and Hibaldstow group in the Yarborough deanery.

Amenities and community
An old school building sits next to the church. The village has a pump, a telephone box, a post office and shop, a primary school, the Sutton Arms pub, a fish and chip shop, and a hairdresser. Bus services connect Scawby with Brigg and Scunthorpe. The village hall began as a hut purchased in 1921 for community use and was replaced by a brick building in 1967, with views of the countryside.

Local trivia
Scawby is home to the local quiz team “Dobbin,” which defeated The Eggheads in 2011.
