Xpress Air
Xpress Air was an Indonesian domestic airline that operated from 2003 to 2021. It began as Express Air, with its first flight between Jayapura and Jakarta on June 23, 2003, and grew to connect Jakarta with many eastern Indonesian cities such as Makassar, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura. It was one of the early privately owned scheduled airlines serving the eastern region, using Makassar and Sorong as major hubs for different routes. In 2012 it rebranded from Express Air to Xpress Air, adopting the slogan “Terbanglah Indonesia” to emphasize a modern, customer‑friendly image. The airline started international routes to Malaysia in 2014 and expanded its network across West Papua, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara. Its main hub later became Tanjung Pinang’s Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport, while Makassar and Sorong remained important bases. By 2021 the fleet had grown to about six aircraft serving around two dozen destinations. Xpress Air ceased operations in 2021.
