Casa de los Coroneles
Casa de los Coroneles is a historic house in La Oliva, on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. It was once the home of the island’s commanding colonel and today houses an art gallery. The building dates from around 1740, likely built under Colonel Melchor de Cabrera Bethencourt, and it shows a Canarian‑Andalusian style. The north façade has 16 windows—eight on the ground floor and eight above—each upper window with a wooden balcony. At a time when many homes had few or no windows, the many windows signaled the wealth and power of its residents. The twin battlements on the sides are decorative features meant to display authority rather than serve a military purpose.
