Becquerel family
The Becquerel family was a French line of scientists who made important discoveries in electricity, light, and radioactivity. The most notable members are:
- Antoine César Becquerel (1788–1878): A pioneer in electrochemistry who studied how electricity works in crystals and other materials.
- Edmond Becquerel (1820–1891): Antoine’s son, who discovered the photovoltaic effect (how light can produce electricity) and did early work on luminescence.
- Henri Becquerel (1852–1908): Edmond’s son, who discovered natural radioactivity in 1896. He shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Marie and Pierre Curie.
