Xestia ditrapezium
Xestia ditrapezium, the triple-spotted clay, is a moth in the Noctuidae family. It is found across much of Europe and northern Asia, from Europe to Japan, including northern Turkey, northern Iran, Transcaucasia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and regions from the Altai to the Kuril Islands.
The moth has a wingspan of 35–47 mm. Its forewings are a smooth vinous brown with dark markings that are not very black, and the hindwings have a yellowish tinge. Adults are active in July.
The larvae overwinter when small and then feed on a variety of plants, such as bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), willows (Salix), alders (Alnus), birch (Betula), and raspberries (Rubus, including Rubus idaeus).
Earlier scientific name: Noctua ditrapezium.
