Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song Amar, performed by the duo 2B (Luciana Abreu and Rui Drumond). The entry was chosen internally by RTP. The artists and song were announced on 22 March 2005, and Amar was presented to the public on 1 April 2005. The song was written by José da Ponte, Alexandre Honrado and Ernesto Leite.
Portugal competed in the semi-final on 19 May 2005, performing third. Amar did not reach the final, finishing 17th out of 25 with 51 points. The performance was noted for a on-stage technical mishap, including a faulty microphone for Abreu.
RTP broadcast the shows in Portugal on RTP1 and RTP Internacional, with Eládio Clímaco serving as commentator. Isabel Angelino was Portugal’s spokesperson for the final votes.
In the voting, Portugal awarded its 12 points to Belgium (Portugal-born Nuno Resende) in the semi-final and to Romania in the final.
