W. lingulata is a tiny flowering plant in the arum family (Araceae). It is native to the Americas and lives in calm freshwater like ponds. The plant has a green frond that is only 3 to 9 millimeters wide. It often grows as a mother-daughter pair, reproducing vegetatively by budding. It can also reproduce sexually through very small, microscopic flowers. Common names for this plant are tongueshape bogmat and tongueshape mud-midget.
